About Pista Badam Tea

Have you ever thought of giving your regular masala chai a royal touch? If not, try this Amritsari Badam Pista Tea (Chai). This dried nuts tea is your everyday masala chai with the goodness of almonds and pistachios. It became famous from Giani tea stall in Amritsar, where people line up to have a hot cup of this badam pista chai in the morning. The masala chai is topped with frothy milk and crushed nuts, giving it a royal touch and a distinct and unique flavor. The tea’s milk ratio is higher than water, making it nice and creamy, giving it a rich texture. You can adjust the ratio of milk to water as per your taste. It is a perfect hot beverage to serve to your guests during festivals or their visits when you want to serve something special. Your guests will be impressed with this unique way of serving tea. Ingredients

For The Tea

To make the tea, you will need just basic chai ingredients such as water, milk, sugar, tea leaves, and chai masala powder. I like using whole milk (full-fat milk) for this tea. You can use other milk options too, such as skim milk, low-fat milk, or vegan options such as almond milk or soy milk. You can use a store-bought chai masala powder or make it at home. If you want the recipe for homemade chai masala, you can get it here – Masala Tea Powder.

For The Froth

To make the froth, you will need whole milk (full-fat milk).

For The Topping

The frothy tea is topped with almonds (badam), pistachios (pista), and whole green cardamom (hari elaichi).

How To Make Badam Pista Tea

Make The Tea

Add

½ cup water 1 and ½ cups of whole milk 1 teaspoon chai masala powder

into a small pot and bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and cook for 2 minutes. Now add 2 teaspoon black tea leaves and 3 teaspoon granulated white sugar and cook for another 2 minutes. Strain the ready tea using a fine mesh strainer in 2 serving cups.

Make The Froth

While the tea is cooking, make the froth. Add ½ cup of milk to a small pan and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Once the milk comes to a boil, pull it between 2 utensils from height to create the foam on top. You can also use a coffee frother or an electric milk frother to make the froth.

Make The Topping

Add

2 almonds 3-4 unsalted shelled pistachios 1 green cardamom

into a mortar and crush them using the pestle.

Assemble The Tea

Top the tea with some milk froth and with crushed almonds, pistachios, and green cardamom. Serve hot. Tip – Use the leftover milk below the froth to make other recipes.

Serving Suggestions
