About Asian Zing Sauce
Asian Zing Sauce is a hot, and spicy sauce loaded with Asian flavors. This sauce is popularly served at the famous restaurant chain, “Buffalo Wild Wings” with their chicken wings. Although it is popularly served with chicken wings, you can also serve it with meatballs, chicken tenders, shrimp, air-fried vegetables, or stir-fried vegetables and noodles. It can easily be made at home with minimal ingredients and comes together in just 5 minutes.
Storage Suggestions
Cool it down completely before storing it! Once cooled, it can last for about a week in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Sweet Chilli Sauce – It adds a nice sweet spicy flavor to the sauce. Try my homemade Sweet Chili Sauce recipe. Rice Vinegar – This recipe uses rice vinegar, but you can also substitute it with white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar. Garlic and Ginger – Fresh ginger and garlic are recommended for the best flavor. You can also use cardamom or allspice instead of ginger for a different flavor. Sesame Oil – The addition of toasted sesame oil enhances its flavor. You can also substitute it with olive oil or canola oil, but the taste will differ a bit. Honey – Adds a slight hint of sweetness to the sauce. You can use maple syrup or brown sugar for a vegan version. Red Pepper Flakes – Make it spicier with the use of red pepper flakes. For a milder version, you can use paprika or to make it spicier use a hotter variety of red pepper flakes. Cornstarch – The addition of cornstarch gives the sauce a thick consistency. You can also squeeze in some lemon juice for freshness and add in toasted sesame seeds for an added crunch and flavor.
¼ cup dark soy sauce 3 tablespoon sweet chili sauce 2 tablespoon rice vinegar 1 tablespoon minced garlic 1 teaspoon grated ginger 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil ¼ cup honey ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
Pour the mixture into a saucepan and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Stir the slurry into the sauce and continue to cook until the sauce thickens to your liking. Remove from heat. Taste the sauce and add more honey or red pepper flakes according to your preference and adjust the sweetness or spiciness. Allow the sauce to cool before using it. It will thicken slightly as it cools. Reheat it in a pan over low heat until it reaches room temperature before serving. It is also freezer-friendly. Once it cools down completely, freeze it in a freezer-safe container or ziplock bag for up to 3 months. Keep some space on top while storing, as the sauce tends to expand after freezing. Thaw it on the counter for a few hours or in the refrigerator overnight before heating it again.
