About This Recipe
Greek Fries, or Patates Tiganites, are a Mediterranean-style fried potato dish where potatoes are cut into thick wedges and deep-fried in extra virgin olive oil. They are then tossed in a seasoning with all the amazing Greek flavors. You go to Greece, and every restaurant will serve you a plate full of these super addictive Greek french fries along with the main course or salad, or topped on your gyro wrap. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, these fries are super addictive however they are served. Traditionally, the potatoes are hand-cut into thick wedges and then fried until crisp. But to make the recipe more accessible and still keep the authentic taste, I make Greek Fries using frozen french fries. My version is done in under 15 minutes. Best of both worlds, right? This dish is gluten-free and is perfect to serve as an appetizer for parties, game nights, or movie nights. In this post, I have shared how to make Greek fries using frozen French fries (my fav method) and also the traditional way (making fries from scratch). Choose the one that suits you. Ingredients
Fries – You can either cut potatoes to make fries from scratch at home or use store-bought frozen fries, which can be baked, air-fried or deep-fried. To make things easy and quick, I mostly go with store-bought frozen fries for this dish. Flavors – To flavor these fries, you will need extra virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, dried oregano, and salt. Be sure to use good-quality extra virgin olive oil and red wine vinegar for the best and most authentic taste. If red wine vinegar is not available, you can use apple cider vinegar or white vinegar. Toppings – Once the potato fries are mixed with other ingredients, they are topped with feta cheese, onions, tomatoes, black olives, and parsley. Feta cheese adds a tangy and salty taste, whereas tomatoes and onions add a nice crunch.
How To Make Greek Fries
Start by cooking the french fries. I like to bake fries until they are crisp, but you can definitely deep-fry or air-fry them. If you are going to make your fries from scratch, I have given the method below. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Place 7 oz (200 g) of frozen fries on a baking tray. Spread them in a single layer on the tray and spray generously with extra virgin olive oil. Place the baking tray on the middle rack of the oven and bake until the fries are crispy and golden brown. It will take 18-20 minutes. Toss the fries once midway while baking. Once the french fries are cooked, transfer them to a large mixing bowl and pour 2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, 2 tablespoon red wine vinegar, 1 tablespoon dried oregano, and salt (to taste) on top. Toss well to coat. Transfer them to a serving plate. Top with ½ cup crumbled feta cheese, ½ cup chopped red onion, ½ cup chopped tomato, ¼ cup sliced black olives, and 2 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley. Toss and top the fries immediately, or they will get soggy. Serve immediately.
Serving Suggestions
Serve these delectable Greek Fries on their own or with Tzatziki Sauce dip for an amazing snack. Serve them as a side dish with grilled chicken, fish, or salmon fish sticks. Greek fries are of course excellent served beside your favorite burgers, wraps, and sandwiches. They also go wonderfully with Falafel. And I love to serve them as a side with my Spicy Lemon Garlic Baked Tilapia.
