Broken glass jello

Yesterday I received a mail from my viewer asking me to post broken glass jelly pudding which I haven’t heard about it before. So I googled it and was totally inspired by the pictures and wanted to make it immediately. Next day when I checked my fridge, I found only one packet of raspberry jelly. But I wanted some more colours as well, so I asked hubby to get few different colours of jelly. I made it in that day and it was total hit. Loved it to the core.

About Broken Glass Jello

Broken glass jello is a trending recipe that is circulating all over the internet. It is nothing but multi coloured & flavoured jello pieces scattered all over milk jelly and set in moulds. All you need is few packets of jello, condensed milk and gelatin. You can make this with one flavour of jelly packet or multi coloured ones. Any which way this is a fun recipe to try with your kids. Not to mention it is so yum. Kids will enjoy the process of making this recipe. I loved this pudding so much, it was so delicious. I loved the tart taste of jelly in between the creamy taste of condensed milk mix. It is relatively easy to make, plus it is so much fun to make as well.

Jello Packets - You need few packets of jello. It is fun to add multi flavoured and coloured jello in this recipe. But you can definitely use one flavoured jello as well. Gelatin - This is used to set the milk layer which we make. If you want it to be vegetarian, you can use agar agar powder instead of gelatin. I have mentioned the recipe in the recipe card. Sweetened Condensed Milk - One whole can of sweetened condensed milk is used to make the milk layer. Since we are using only condensed milk, the milk layer turns out to be so creamy.

Tips for Perfect Broken Glass Jello

Multi Colour Jello - The jello gets it look from the multi colour jello packets. The colours and flavours of the jello packets adds a pop of colour in the final pudding. It is fun to add multi flavoured and coloured jello in this recipe. But you can definitely use one flavoured jello as well like the one which I have shared in the video. Make it vegetarian - If you want this to make it completely vegetarian, you have to choose jelly packets made with agar agar instead of gelatin. Also in the milk layer use agar agar instead of gelatin. Don’t use too much gelatin - it is important to use less gelatin in the milk layer so the pudding sets softer. If you use more gelatin or agar agar it might set hard. Moulds to Choose - Broken glass jello is a pretty pudding, so it is important to set this in a pretty mould. I like my bundt pan to set this dessert. But you can use glass baking dish or loaf pan to set it as well.

Broken Glass Jelly Preparation

Making Instant Jello

Start by making jelly. Heat water till boiling, pour 1 cup of water in each jelly crystal and mix well. Pour this in a tin or tray and chill till set.

Make Milk Jelly

Now pour ½ cup cold water in gelatin and let it soak for 5 mins. Take this in a saucepan, heat till it is melted. Set aside. Take condensed milk in a bowl. In the condensed milk tin pour 1 cup of water and mix well. Pour this over the condensed milk and mix well. Pour the gelatin mix and mix well.

Assembling

Now remove the jelly from fridge slice it into cubes. Take a big tray or mould to set the pudding. Grease it well with oil. Put the cubes in the mould. Pour the custard mix over this. Chill this for 2 to 3 hours till it is set.

De moulding

For inverting. Pour hot water in a plate. Dip the mould in the hot water. Invert it and slice and serve.

How to Make Broken Glass Jello (Stepwise Pictures)

Making Instant Jello

1)Bring three cups of water to a full boil. For every one cup of jello, use 1 cup of water. 2)In this recipe, I am using three flavours of instant jello. This is strawberry flavoured ones. Take the jelly packet in a bowl. 3)Pour in 1 cup of boiling water into the jelly mixture. Make sure the water is boiling. 4)Whisk the jelly into the water till it is completely melted. 5)Pour the melted jelly mix into the pan or mould and allow it to set in fridge for few hours. 6) I used disposable aluminium moulds which is convenient. You can use regular shallow plates or small pans. 7)Now for the second flavour. I am using orange flavour. Take the orange jello packet in a bowl. 8)Pour 1 cup of boiling water into the jelly packet. Whisk well till it is completely melted. 9)Pour the prepared jelly mix into the mould and allow it to rest in fridge for few hours. 10)For the third flavour, I am using pineapple flavoured jelly. 11)Pour the hot water into the jelly packet. Mix the jelly into the hot water till it is completely melted. 12)Pour the jelly mix into the mould and allow it to set in fridge for few hours till set. 13)I usually allow this to set in fridge for 1 hour so the jelly sets completely.

Bloom Gelatin for Milk Layer

14)Take gelatin in a bowl for allowing it to bloom. Instead of gelatin you can use agar agar powder. 15)Pour ½ cup of cold water and mix the gelatin with the water. 16)Allow the gelatin to sit for 10 minutes for it to soften and bloom. 17)Heat the gelatin mix in a sauce pan so the gelatin melts completely.

Make Milk Layer

18)Take condensed milk in a sauce pan. I am using one can of sweetened condensed milk. 19)Pour 1 cup of water into the can swirl it around to dissolve the condensed milk stuck to the can. 20)Pour the milk mix into the sauce pan. Mix this really well and heat it gently so the condensed milk mixture gets heated through just for 2 minutes. 21)Pour melted gelatin mix into the milk mixture and whisk well. 22)Mix the gelatin mix into the milk mixture evenly. Set aside so it cools a bit.

Cutting Jello into cubes

23)Take the set jello from the fridge. 24)de mould it to a plate for cutting. 25)Cut the set jello into cubes. Don’t cut it so small. Make medium size cubes. 26)Do this for the other flavours of jello.

About Setting Mould

27)Now for setting the jello. I am using a bundt cake pan. You can use silicon moulds or loaf pans as well. Grease the mould slightly with oil or you can run the mould under cold water to wet it.

Assembling the Jello

28)Scatter the cut up jello into mould evenly. Make sure you sprinkle each colour evenly in the mould. 29)Pour the cooled milk mix into the mould over the jello. 30)Let the jello disperse evenly into the mould. 31)Place the mould into the fridge to set overnight. I usually place them in freezer for 2 hours so it sets faster.

Demoulding

32)After few hours the jello is completely set. Make sure the jello is firm to touch and cold. 33)For inverting or de moulding. Pour hot water in a plate. 33)Dip the mould in the hot water just for 5 seconds. 34)Place a large plate over the mould and invert it gently. 35)Invert it and slice and serve. 36)Enjoy.

Broken Glass Jello (Made with One Flavoured Jello)

The above jello I made using strawberry jelly packet. And for setting, instead of gelatin I used agar agar powder.

Expert Tips

You can use one flavoured jello instead of different colours and flavours. You can set the pudding in bundt mould or any shaped moulds as you like. Don’t add too much gelatin else the pudding might get hard.

How to Use Agar Agar Powder instead of Gelatin

If you want to use agar agar powder instead of gelatin, add 1 tsp agar agar powder into the condensed milk mixture and bring it to a full boil while whisking constantly. Now allow this so cool for a bit before pouring into moulds.
