About Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino
I am a huge fan of Starbucks beverages but the only thing that pulls me back is the cost. It’s fine to grab a drink occasionally, but I cringe at spending on their beverages regularly. So, I learned to make a few of their drinks at home and make them almost every day at a fraction of the cost. I have mastered the Starbucks copycat recipes of Iced Vanilla Latte, Caramel Latte, Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte, and this copycat version of Chocolate Chip Frappe. This chocolate chip frappe recipe is super easy to make and you will never buy it again once you make it at your own home. When made at home, the cost is reduced to almost ¼th of buying it at Starbucks. The official Starbucks name for this drink is the Double Chocolatey Chip Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage. But it’s also known as a double chocolate chip frappe or frozen chocolate frappe. It is slushy, creamy, rich, and loaded with decadent chocolate flavor. The recipe comes together in just 5 minutes using simple ingredients. The recipe to make this chocolate chip frappe is gluten-free, vegetarian, and can be easily made vegan. You can double or triple it, too, as per your requirements. So, if you are a chocolate lover, ditch the coffee shop frappe drinks and make this chocolaty frappe first! Want more coffee recipes? Does The Chocolate Chip Frappe Have Coffee In It?
I am sharing a fun fact with you: Starbucks doesn’t add coffee to their chocolate chip frappuccino. But if you are a coffee lover, worry not. You can always add a shot of espresso to this recipe and get your coffee cravings fixed. In hindsight, no added coffee makes it a great kids’ drink, and you, too, can have a second cup without your blood pressure shooting up.
Ingredients
Milk – I use chilled whole milk (full-fat milk) as it makes my drink rich and creamy but you can use skim or low-fat milk too. Plant-based milk, like almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk, soy milk, etc, also works fine. Chocolate Syrup – Add chocolate syrup for the yummy chocolaty flavor. I used Hershey’s. You can also make your chocolate syrup using this easy recipe. Mini Chocolate Chips – Mini chocolate chips are easier to blend. Use the best quality dark chocolate chips for a rich, chocolaty flavor. You can also use semi-sweet chocolate chips for milder and sweeter chocolate chip frappe. Ice Cubes – Blending ice cubes with the other ingredients makes this beverage slushy, just as it’s served at Starbucks. Sugar – Adjust the sugar as per your taste. You can replace sugar with maple syrup, honey, or agave nectar. Sugar-free substitutes like stevia or monk fruit also work fine. Pure Vanilla Extract – It gives a lovely aroma to the drink. Ground Cinnamon – Cinnamon and chocolate are a great combination. Just add a hint of cinnamon to accentuate the chocolate flavor. Note – Store-bought beverages sometimes have Xanthan Gum added to them, Starbucks adds it too. It thickens and stabilizes the drinks and does not let the ingredients separate from each other. When making chocolate chip frappe at home, you can choose to add it or not. If adding, then use ¼ teaspoon in the recipe given below. This ingredient is not all harmful. It has a few health benefits, too. You can read more about it here. Whipped Cream – No Starbucks frappuccino is complete without a topping of whipped cream. However, feel free to skip it if you are not a whipped cream fan.
How To Make Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino
Add
1 cup chilled whole milk 1 tablespoon granulated white sugar ¼ cup mini dark chocolate chips 2 tablespoon chocolate sauce 1 and ½ cups ice cubes ½ teaspoon vanilla extract 1 pinch of ground cinnamon
to a high-speed blender. Tip – If your blender is not very powerful, use crushed ice instead of ice cubes. Note – Add 2 shots of espresso or ½ cup of strongly brewed coffee if you want to make the drink with coffee. Blend until smooth. Start on low speed to prevent overflow, and slowly increase to the highest setting. Pour the drink into 2 tall serving glasses (20-24 oz). Top with whipped cream. Garnish with chocolate sauce and chocolate chips, and serve immediately.

Add a splash of bourbon or dark rum for an adult version of a chocolate chip frappuccino. Add a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream or a tablespoon of instant vanilla pudding to make a creamier drink. Replace chocolate sauce with caramel or butterscotch syrup. If you want your frappuccino to stay colder longer, freeze the serving glasses for 30 minutes before pouring the drink into them. Top the double chocolatey chip frappuccino with crushed candy canes or red and green sprinkles if making it for Christmas. You can top it with Halloween-themed sprinkles, M&Ms, etc., if making it as a Halloween drink.
