Turmeric Ginger Tea is a healthy herbal drink made using fresh ginger and ground or fresh turmeric. It is a perfect drink to sip on when you are feeling low, have a cold or flu, have an upset stomach, or need to destress. It is also said to be great to sip on if you are on a weight loss journey. Ginger Turmeric Tea is a healing beverage tonic that is more of a tisane than tea. This means no tea leaves are added to make this drink. It is super comforting and filled with so many health-benefiting properties and it’s also great for weight loss. The taste of this herbal tea is earthy and slightly bitter. It is zingy and tangy at the same time. This easy, quick, one-pot ginger and turmeric tea comes together in under 10 minutes. It is naturally gluten-free and vegan. The two main ingredients of this tea – ginger and turmeric- have natural anti-inflammatory properties, making it even better to sip on, especially on winter or cold monsoon nights. Ingredients
You will need just 5 ingredients to make this healthy beverage – Fresh Ginger Root, Cinnamon Stick, Ground or Fresh Turmeric, Fresh Lemon, and Water. Ginger – Fresh ginger root gives a lovely spicy kick to this tea. If fresh ginger is unavailable, add ½ teaspoon of ground ginger in its place. Turmeric – You can use either fresh turmeric or ground turmeric. If using fresh turmeric, use 1 teaspoon grated fresh turmeric instead of ½ teaspoon dry turmeric powder. Fresh turmeric root is generally available in whole foods. If you use turmeric powder, I suggest you use good-quality organic ground turmeric. Sometimes low-quality turmeric powder is adulterated with artificial color and you don’t want to use that. Sweetener – Add a little honey (not vegan) or any other sweetener like maple syrup or agave nectar if you like the sweet tea. You can also use sugar-free options like stevia or monk fruit. Lemon Juice – Use freshly squeezed lemon juice to make this tea. Adjust the quantity according to your taste. You can also use lime juice in place of lemon juice. Cinnamon gives this drink a nice flavor and has its own health benefits. Optional – Add some crushed black pepper or a pinch of cayenne to include their benefits in the tea. It is said that black pepper makes the absorption of turmeric better. Adding a little oil like coconut oil, avocado oil, or grass-fed butter also improves curcumin absorption. You can also add green tea bags (or loose green tea leaves) or black tea bags while making this tea. You can also add organic licorice root, organic lemongrass, and organic peppermint leaf to this tea recipe. They also have many medicinal properties.
How To Make Turmeric And Ginger Tea
Add 3 cups of water to a medium-sized saucepan and bring it to a boil over high heat. Once the water comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low. Add
1 tablespoon grated ginger 1 whole cinnamon stick 1 teaspoon organic ground turmeric
and simmer for 5 minutes. Switch off the heat and remove the saucepan from heat. Add ¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice and stir well. Add honey if you wish to. Note – You can add a teaspoon of ghee at this stage for better absorption of curcumin (the bright yellow chemical in turmeric) by the body. Strain the tea into 2 teacups using a tea strainer. Serve hot.
Pro Tips By Neha
Turmeric leaves stains on everything that it comes in contact with. So, use an old chopping board and pot to make the tea. Wearing gloves will prevent your fingers from staining as well. Adding a pinch of ground black pepper or cayenne pepper will add to the benefit of the tea. Adding ½ teaspoon of oil like coconut oil, avocado oil, or grass-fed butter will help the absorption of curcumin better.
Storage Suggestions
Store the tea in an airtight container and refrigerate it for 3-4 days. Do not add lemon juice and honey if you plan to reheat the tea. Add them after reheating and just before serving.
