About Glazed Chocolate Cookies

Glazed chocolate cookies is a rich buttery chocolate cookies coated with chocolate glaze or melted chocolate spread. The cookie dough is made with basic ingredients like butter, sugar, cocoa, flour, and baking agents. The cookies is like a shortbread cookie dough. The glaze for the cookies can be made in two different ways. You can make a thick cocoa sugary glaze for the cookies or just melt some semi sweet chocolate chips and spread over the cookies like the whole wheat version which I have shared in the variation. It is like shortbread like chocolate cookies which is glazed with a dark chocolate glaze. The cookies are not so sweet, but with the glaze it taste yum. I actually made this batch of cookies for my little niece and she loved it.

Why this recipe works?

The cookie dough is an easy recipe that you can make in matter of minutes. Since it has no eggs added, you don’t have to rest the cookie dough in fridge. You make it instantly and bake it immediately. For healthier option use whole wheat flour instead of plain flour which makes the cookies turn out just perfect. Personally I enjoy baking this cookies with whole wheat flour these days. Also I prefer to use melted real chocolate as glaze for the cookies. You can even use any chocolate hazelnut spread like nutella for the glaze.

Glazed Chocolate Cookies Ingredients

Butter - use soft unsalted butter for making the cookie dough. Using salted butter can make the cookies too salty, so always prefer unsalted. Make sure you remove the butter from fridge at least 30 minutes before making. Sugar - The cookie dough doesn’t uses lots of sugar because it has a glaze. I like to powder my sugar in a blender so it is fine and creams better with the butter. Cocoa - use the finest quality cocoa powder for this cookies. The better the quality the more delicious it gets. Flour to Use - I used plain flour for making this cookies. but in the video shown above I have used whole wheat flour and it was just perfect. Baking Agents - baking powder and baking soda is added in the cookie dough to create the perfect texture. For Glaze - the glaze shown in the step wise images is made with icing sugar, cocoa and water. It is a simple cocoa glaze. But in the video I melted some semi sweet chocolate chips and used that for coating the cookies. It was perfect.

How to Make Glazed Chocolate Cookies (Stepwise Pictures)

Pre-preparation

1)Preheat oven to 170 Degree C or 338 Degree F. Line a baking sheet with parchment and set aside.

Creaming Butter with Sugar

2)Take butter in a bowl. Make sure you use unsalted and soft butter for making the cookie dough. 3)Add in powdered sugar. I took some sugar in a blender and powdered it myself. Using powdered sugar helps creaming process easier. 4)Add in some vanilla extract. You can skip this if you want to. Pro Tips: You can add a pinch of fine salt at this point. Salt balance the taste of the cookies. 5)Use a whisk or wooden spoon to cream the butter with sugar and vanilla for 3 minutes till it is light and fluffy.

6)Add in cocoa powder. I am using finest quality cocoa powder and it makes all the difference. 7)Mix the cocoa powder into the butter and sugar mixture till it is combined. This steps helps evenly distribute the cocoa powder into the butter mix. 8)Add in the plain flour. And you can use wheat flour instead of plain flour, check below. 9)Add in baking soda. 10)Add in baking powder. 11)Mix this gently to form a soft dough. The dough can be slightly sticky. It is not an issue.

Shaping Cookies

12)Take a small portion of cookie dough from the mixture. you can divide the cookie dough using an ice cream scoop of a tbsp measure. 13)Shape it into a smooth ball. 14)Place it on a parchment lined baking tray.

Baking Cookies

15)Flatten the cookies lightly. Don’t press it too much else it may get so flat. 16)Place the cookies into the oven and bake for 15 minutes. The cookies will have a slight crinkly top. That is perfectly fine.

Make Chocolate Glaze

17)While the cookies is cooling, lets make the chocolate glaze. I am making a cocoa glaze. You can simple melt some semi sweet chocolate chips instead of making this glaze which is easier. I used a simple cocoa glaze. It is made with icing sugar, cocoa powder, water and vanilla extract. 18)take icing sugar in a small sauce pan. 19)Add in cocoa powder. 20)Add a splash of vanilla into the icing sugar. 21)Add in some water. 22)Heat this gently till everything melts and looks smooth. 23)Look how glossy the glaze is.

Decorating Cookies

24)Spoon the chocolate glaze all over the cookies. 25)Decorate with sprinkles and allow them to set for few minutes. 26)Enjoy.

How to Make this Using Whole Wheat?

This same cookies I made few days back using whole wheat flour and made a chocolate glaze. I melted some semi sweet chocolate chips and spread all the over the cookies. I have shared this recipe in the video. There is not much change which I made. I just used wheat flour instead of plain flour. I also used a pinch of salt to enhance the chocolate flavour in the cookie dough. The glaze is melted chocolate.

Expert Tips

Instead of plain flour, you can use wheat flour for making cookie dough. Make sure you powder the sugar before adding into the butter for creaming easier. Don’t over mix the dough else it may get hard and dense. Instead of making glaze, you can melt some semi sweet chocolate chips and spread all over the cookies. Don’t over bake the cookies, the cookies may look soft when it comes out of the oven. As the cookies cool, it will harden a bit.
