How to clean Yam  Ordinary

I love making pulikulambu or theyal with this beautiful yam. But the one thing that puts me off is the iching it causes on the throat. I learned this trick from my mum and she told me if you add tamarind while cooking the yam, it removes the itching it creates on the throat. I followed that step and it really worked. So try this way to clean yam and i will be posting a wonderful gravy with this tomorrow.

Is a yam a potato?

Yams are not related to potatoes. Both are underground stem tubers, but they come from different botanical families. The potato is a member of the nightshade family, along with peppers and tomatoes. Yams are members of the flowering vine plant family, which also includes grasses and lilies.

What do yams taste like?

You’ll find that yams have a more neutral flavour that allows other seasonings and ingredients to shine. They absorb the flavours of the elements around them. Despite their flavour differences, yams and sweet potatoes can be cooked in the same ways: boiled, roasted, fried, and baked.
