About Upma Kozhukattai | Kara Pidi Kozhukattai
Upma, uppumavu, or uppittu is a breakfast dish from the Indian subcontinent that is most common in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, TamilNadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtrian, and Sri Lankan Tamil. It is made from dry-roasted semolina or coarse rice flour. Arisi Upma is a traditional and simple breakfast or evening tiffin. Itsa common breakfast in most Tamil Brahmin households. Arisi Upma is made with raw rice, toor dal, pepper, and seasoning ingredients. Rice and dal are pounded to a rava-like coarse powder with peppercorns first. Kozhukkattai, also known as kozhukatta, is a popular South Indian dumpling made from rice flour and filled with grated coconut, jaggery, or chakkavaratti. Kozhukattai, while typically sweet, can occasionally be stuffed with a savoury filling. Kerala Christians prepare it on the Saturday before Palm Sunday, hence the nameKozhukatta Saturday. 1)Take Raw Rice in a blender and powder coarsely. This recipe was on my mind ever since i made rice flour at home, That is because i got some rava like rice while i sieved the rice flour. I transferred that in an air tight container and store it in fridge to make kozhukattai with it. And couple of days back i made it too. It was delicious.

Oil - 1 tblspn Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp Raw Peanuts - 1 tblspn Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi - ¼ tsp Curry leaves - 1 sprig Dry Red Chilli - 2 chopped finely Ginger - 2 tsp grated Coconut - ¼ cup grated Rice Rava / Arisi Rava / Broken Rice - 1.5 cup Salt to taste Coriander Leaves - 3 tblspn finely chopped Water - 3 cup
