Pumpkin Cinnamon Swirl Bread

One reason I love fall is because it means pumpkin season! There are so many things you can bake with pumpkin—like these Pumpkin Cake Truffles. This bread is one of my favorites! It is like an upgrade of cinnamon swirl bread. It’s an upgrade in nutrition too, you add in a superfood. It is so tender, with a delicious spiced pumpkin flavor, and it has the wonderful sweetness of cinnamon. And the aroma when it’s baking, let’s just say no scented candle could ever come close to competing! I love this bread too because it is similar to a cinnamon roll with less fat and sugar, but you still get all those amazing flavors and more. If you are looking for all the flavors of fall in 1 sweet loaf of bread then you must give this a try!

This is somewhere between a long-rise yeast bread and your super speedy quick breads, with two short raises before the oven. First, you combine warm water, a teaspoon of sugar, and yeast until dissolved, then let it rest and bubble up. Then add the spices (make your own pumpkin pie spice if you like), canned pumpkin (or pumpkin pie filling), large eggs, and wet ingredients to the large bowl to make a smooth batter. Slowly fold in the dry ingredients until the dough is smooth and elastic at room temperature. Move dough to a bowl wiped with vegetable oil or other cooking spray, cover, and let rise for about an hour. (For chocolate chip pumpkin bread, stir in chocolate chips with the dry ingredients. Cranberries are also good!) After rising, roll out the dough and brush with the 1/3 cup sugar and two teaspoon ground cinnamon. You can also add a teaspoon ground cloves and a teaspoon ground nutmeg for even more spice. Roll it up, place the loaf in a greased pan, then bake for 45 minutes.
