What is Sattu?
Sattu is a protein-rich flour made from powdered channa (Bengal gram) or other pulses and cereals. It is quite popular in the northern parts of India such as Jharkhand, Bihar, and UP. Recently, I was pleased to know that it is even liked in Pakistan. This Bihari ingredient is used for making varied dishes such as Litti Chokha, Paratha, Chilla, Laddu, et al. You can even make cookies using this flour. But, the best way of relishing it this summer is by making this nutritious Sattu Sharbat and drink it every day. This sharbat can be made sweet and savory. The best part is that it does not contain any harmful calories, any artificial sweeteners, and preservatives, and is economical too. In this recipe, I have even used mint which makes this yummy drink more rejuvenating. Just like Jaljeera, this sharbat has a tangy taste which instantly lifts up our mood after a demanding day, you see! You can even add some jaggery or sugar, to make a sweeter version of the same.
Health Benefits of Sattu
It is rich source of protein I came to know that it is even good for the skin. It is also considered great for diabetes and high BP. It acts as a coolant too and therefore considered great to consume during summers as it instantly gives you relief from the scorching heat outside and even increases your energy. Its low glycaemic index and high fiber content keeps a check on the sugar levels. Sattu Flour has a good amount of fiber content which helps in digestion, it even flushes out all the extra oil that you consume. It even helps us in balancing our diet. Moreover, it refreshes us instantly on consumption. This drink is also a great option if you are looking for some weight loss drinks to consume as it is very low in calories.
How to make it at home?
Ingredients: 2 cups Roasted Gram or Roasted Black Chickpeas Instructions: To make it at home, you just have to grind the roasted gram or black chickpeas into a fine powder. If you do not have the roasted gram, you can roast it on low heat and cool it down to make the aata. You can select both the chickpeas with the skin or without the skin to make the flour. You can even take the combination of both to make the Sattu Aata. Once you grind the Aata, you can sieve it for fine powder.
