About Strawberry Spinach Smoothie
Strawberry Spinach Smoothie is a green-colored smoothie made using juicy strawberries, baby spinach, and ripe bananas. I added fresh orange juice, plain yogurt, and honey to make it extra creamy and sweet. This strawberry banana spinach green smoothie is healthy, nutritious, filling, and super delicious, and it’s my current breakfast favorite for busy weekday mornings. This smoothie is great for weight loss and for adding greens to a picky eater’s diet. Are you skeptical about eating raw spinach? Worry not! Orange juice beautifully hides the flavor of greens while keeping the nutrition intact. This spinach and strawberry smoothie is great for toddlers, too.
Variations
Fruits – Add other fruits such as kiwi, mangoes, blueberries, and raspberries. To save time, buy a large pack of frozen strawberries from Costco or freeze them at home in summer when they are in season. Then, you can keep using them throughout the year. Check out my post on how to freeze strawberries. Spinach – This recipe uses baby spinach, but you can use regular spinach, too. It will be slightly more bitter, though. Frozen spinach also works excellently. Banana – Frozen Banana adds a creamy texture to the smoothie, making it thick and adding sweetness. Yogurt – Use plain or Greek yogurt. You can also use dairy-free yogurt to make this strawberry spinach smoothie vegan. Orange Juice – Adding orange juice helps thin the smoothie and hide the raw taste of baby spinach. I prefer fresh juice, but organic preservative-free bottled juice works fine. Honey – This is optional; add only if you want the smoothie to be sweeter. Chia Seeds – Chia seeds are extremely rich in antioxidants. Add them to make your smoothie even healthier. Others – If you make this strawberry banana spinach smoothie as a pre-or post-workout snack, add a scoop of vanilla protein powder. Peel a large banana, cut it into slices, and freeze for 5-6 hours. Wash ¼ cup baby spinach and drain the excess water. You can use a salad spinner to get rid of the extra water. To save time, buy prewashed spinach. Note – If you forget to freeze the fruits beforehand, add a few ice cubes to the blender while making the smoothie. It will make it creamy. Juice 2-3 oranges to get 1 cup of orange juice, or use preservative-free bottled juice. Add the following ingredients to a high-speed blender.
10-12 frozen strawberries 1 large banana, frozen ¼ cup baby spinach, packed 1 tablespoon chia seeds 1 cup orange juice ½ cup plain yogurt 1 tablespoon honey
Note – You can thaw the frozen fruits on the counter for 10 minutes if they are too hard. Blend until smooth. Add more orange juice if the smoothie is too thick for your liking. Check for sweetness and add more honey if needed. Transfer the smoothie into 2 serving glasses. Garnish with halved strawberry and serve chilled. Greens – Instead of baby spinach, you can use other leafy greens like regular spinach, kale, beet greens, lettuce, celery, Swiss chard, etc. Others – Add protein powder, nut butter (peanut butter, almond butter, or cashew nutter), seeds like sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, etc., while making the strawberry spinach smoothie. Vegan – Use non-dairy yogurt or vegan options such as almond, coconut, soy, oat, cashew, etc., instead of yogurt. Skip adding honey or use maple syrup or agave nectar for sweetness. You can also use sugar-free substitutes like stevia or monk fruit. Orange juice can be replaced with mango juice, pineapple juice, or coconut water. Add some vanilla extract to change the taste.
