About Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie
My go-to breakfast on busy weekday mornings is a bowl of overnight oats with fresh fruits, muesli, nuts, or a fresh fruit smoothie. They are both super easy to make and keep me full for a long time. I can also grab a jar and have them on the go. My current obsession is this creamy Strawberry and Blueberry Smoothie made without bananas. It is sweet from the blueberries, slightly tangy from strawberries, and filling from yogurt. This smoothie sounds summery, but you can make it any time of the year, as frozen fruits work great in this recipe. I have a simple trick for making this smoothie super creamy: freezing the fruits for 3-4 hours. This step transforms the smoothie from a regular breakfast to a WOW breakfast. Healthy, wholesome, and lip-smackingly good strawberry and blueberry smoothie comes together in under 5 minutes. Serve it for a quick breakfast, evening snack, or healthy dessert. Adding protein powder makes it an excellent pre- or post-workout snack.
Variations
You can add more ingredients and make a new variation of this delicious blueberry strawberry smoothie every time. Some options are spinach, orange juice, chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, mixed berries, pineapple, banana, cherries, avocado, mangoes, etc. Vanilla Extract – This is optional. Others – You will also need whole milk, plain or strawberry-flavored yogurt, and honey. I use whole milk to make the smoothie creamy, but you can also use skim or low-fat milk. The same goes for yogurt. You can also use Greek yogurt in place of regular yogurt. Chop off the top green leafy part of the strawberries and slice them. Freeze the sliced strawberries and whole blueberries for 3-4 hours. Freezing the berries makes the smoothie creamier. If you have forgotten to freeze the berries, add a few ice cubes while blending the smoothie. If using already frozen berries, then skip this step. If your blender is not high-power, thaw the frozen berries for 10 minutes for easy blending. Add the following ingredients to the jar.
½ cup chilled whole milk ½ cup chilled plain yogurt ½ teaspoon vanilla extract 1 tablespoon honey
Blend until smooth. If the smoothie is too thick, add more milk. Also, check for sweetness and add more honey if needed. Pour the smoothie into 2 serving glasses. Garnish with more berries and a sprig of mint, and serve chilled. Add healthy fats like nut butter. Peanut butter, cashew butter, and almond butter are some options. You can replace the honey or sugar with sugar-free substitutes like stevia or monk fruit for a low-calorie, sugar-free drink. Add a little ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg for warmth.
