My tandoori masala marinade is a hit, so now I use the same base recipe to make many variations. Tandoori appetizers are a great appetizer option for parties. They are also a healthy dinner option. So, I am all geared up to share a few tandoori-style recipes soon. Starting with this Tandoori flavored chicken wings.

About Tandoori Chicken Wings

Tandoori Wings are a delicious Indian appetizer. Chicken wings are marinated in a spicy yogurt-based marinade and then air-fried or roasted in an oven until nicely cooked. Tandoori wings are similar to the classic tandoori chicken; only wings are used in this recipe instead of other chicken pieces. Like the tandoori chicken recipe, wings are marinated twice and cooked until golden brown and crisp. They are easy to make, use simple pantry ingredients, and need only 15 minutes of active preparation time. You can cook the marinated tandoori wings in an oven or an air fryer. You can also use a gas grill or charcoal fire to cook these. Serve these tandoori-style wings as an appetizer with green chutney, sliced onions, and lime wedges for house parties, potlucks, or festive dinners. For The First Marination

You will need ginger garlic paste, freshly squeezed lime juice, Kashmiri red chili powder, baking soda, and salt. Adding baking soda will make the tandoori wings super crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

For The Second Marination

You will need mustard oil, Kashmiri red chili powder, thick yogurt (curd, dahi), tandoori masala powder, and kasuri methi. Mustard oil is highly recommended for the authentic tandoori taste. If it’s not available, then use any cooking oil. Make tandoori masala powder at home, or use a store-bought one. The marination will not stick to the wings if the yogurt is not thick. So make sure to use thick, plain yogurt or Greek yogurt. You will also need butter or ghee to baste the wings while cooking. Add garam masala and black pepper powder to the marinade for extra heat. Some people add red food coloring to their recipes to give them a dark red color, but I do not use it. Add the following ingredients to a bowl and mix well.

2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste 2 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice 1 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder 1 teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon baking soda

Mix well and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

1 tablespoon mustard oil 1 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder 2 tablespoon thick yogurt 2 tablespoon tandoori masala 1 tablespoon Kasuri methi

Remove the wings from the marinade and place them in the air fryer basket in a single layer.  Note – Air fry in batches if the basket is small. Brush them generously with ghee or butter to help them crisp up.  Place the basket in the air fryer and air fry for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, flip the wings over, brush them with ghee or butter, and continue to cook for an additional 5-10 minutes or until they are crispy and cooked through. Tandoori wings are ready. Serve hot. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange the wings on the wire rack in a single layer, brush with ghee or butter, and bake for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, flip the wings over, brush them with ghee or butter, and continue to bake for an additional 5-10 minutes or until they are crispy and cooked through. Serve hot.
